A Very Important Money Tip for Roatan

This isn't a very long blog post, but it may be one of the most important. If you're bringing U.S. dollars to Roatan, inspect every bill before you leave home. I'm serious!!! If a bill is ripped, torn, excessively wrinkled, taped, or looks like it survived a battle, there's a good chance it won't be accepted. Our group spent an hour at the hotel sorting cash into three categories: Yes, Maybe, and Absolutely Not. It felt less like vacation planning and more like working quality control at the U.S. Treasury. By the end of the process, I had nearly $500 in bills that nobody wanted, so I ended up relying on my credit card instead. I can't speak for other currencies, but when it comes to U.S. dollars in Roatan, the cleaner and newer the bills, the better. Trust me… checking your cash before you travel is a lot more fun than holding a stack of money you can't spend.
